Some paintings I had forgotten about!

I was digging through a collection of scans and photos on my old computer and found these. Living in Lincolnshire means there is no shortage of wonderful scenery. I used to struggle for ideas of what to paint. I was reading a book about Edward Hopper who said 'paint what is around you' - he is absolutly right!

holy crap, your work is just awesome! I thought the first one was a photo and I love the poppy field ... that's what I wanted to paint when I did mine. I think it's a case of the grass is always greener — your style is loose and impressionistic which is my favorite, but I work in a very tight, controlled style. Ah well, I'll just drool over yours.

Cheers, Karen

I did the poppy field painting for my wife Sarah - put it in an exhibition to fill space and sold it, she has never forgiven me!
The first painting is of the woods in the village. We take the dog, Fudge, for a walk there, big drawback are the many wild rabbits, we spend most of the time chasing the dog, chasing rabbits. Good exercise! The grass is definitly greener ... I love your stuff and the amount you do! Really glad I dropped onto your site - changed my life! Seriously.

You make me smile! You're such a talented artist yourself, I'm glad I was able to give you a nudge of inspiration. There are a lot of artists that have done the same for me. You should check out ...

Those are just the four I make sure I check out every single day. Very talented ladies. I need to update my favorite links on my site because I know my list isn't complete.

Thanks for making my day!

Cheers, Karen

Love your poppy paintings.. and the others. I know what you mean about not knowing what to paint. I think you get so used to what's around you that it doesn't seem very interesting. I should take a leaf out of your book! I'm originally from Nottingham, but have lived in OZ since the 70's.

Your work is really great, shows lots of time and painting, painting, painting. You didn't get this good over night and sometimes we all need to remind ourselves of this fact. A painting may only take a day to paint but 30 years of painting.

Very evocative use of light and shadow depicting a lane worth meandering down.
