Jake and his dog

Just finished a painting of my son's friend Jake. I try and avoid portraits but keep coming back to them, there are so many challenges involved. I think I'm happy with this one, his mum is!

How cheeky is this!

I was in the National Portrait Gallery in London and took this photo. I was back there the other week and dropped in for a coffee and the wall looked totally different, it was a dull day and none of the light that this has. I don't know who the person is, shouldn't be taking photographs in the gallery but couldn't resist!

Sarahs painting

So many of you requested to see the full painting, here it is - so far! There are still a few squares I can add to. Thanks for all your comments and emails, there are loads! Much appreciated.

Never ending painting

I did a painting for Sarah. It replaced the many I did for her and then sold (kids needed shoes on their feet, it was Winter), so I made it really personal for her. It's a large canvas with coloured squares on it with little paintings in each of the squares, the cool thing is the way it can be added to every now and again. I've put some more images onto it today - here's a couple. I've developed a liking for labels. Isn't it funny when you zone in on something and then you see similar things over and over. I saw an exhibition in Lincoln where an artist had used keys and labels in a old wardrobe, typed on an old typewriter. I then saw a similar thing in an exhibition in the gallery in Manchester at the weekend, you take some lables and then post them back to the gallery from all over the world. Another artist Andrew Gadd did a wonderful piece with a picture of a woman clothed completely in labels - love his work by the way. So here is my scaled down stolen, use of the idea!

Poppies everywhere you look

I keep painting poppies, not intentionally, but there are times when you see nothing but poppyfields all around Lincoln. Driving around I wish I had my camera with me to take photos but would never get to where I need to be! My new year resolution is to take my camera everywhere, allow time to stop and take photos, sketch and paint whenever I can.

I should be posting paintings of wonderful orange, yellow, red and green trees about now!

Some paintings I had forgotten about!

I was digging through a collection of scans and photos on my old computer and found these. Living in Lincolnshire means there is no shortage of wonderful scenery. I used to struggle for ideas of what to paint. I was reading a book about Edward Hopper who said 'paint what is around you' - he is absolutly right!

A day of painting

I've been painting most of the day and loved it. It's one of those evenings to enjoy home made soup in front of the log fire. I've added a couple of paintings of my children, they make great subjects to paint.

Welcome!

I've taken the plunge and decided that I should keep a blog as well as keeping a journal. I want to share my artwork and thought this was a great way of doing it! Keep looking out for more stuff as I get used to using this. It has taken me hours to get this far!
