I was listening to Mercury Rev and still get blown away by 'The Dark is Rising' It made me paint for the first time in ages. I've been down to the woods, just a few yards from the front door. There are some wonderful places in there with fantastic light and shade - I may stay with some woodland paintings for a little while, what do you think?

Absolutely beautiful and moody!
Welcome back, Steve, great painting to get you back in the groove again.
The only "Dark is Rising" I know is the recent film, but this fits well with that. =)
I HOPE you will stay with the "woods" paintings for awhile, or whatever inspires you!! This is GLORIOUS!!!
Fabulous, I love all the darks!
I am very glad you are back, and like very much your woods, as everything I see in your blog
Great mood in this one. I love trees.
Fantastic. I paint just enough to know what a great job you did on the woods. The interplay of light and dark is wonderful and not easily pulled off. Congratulations on your comeback.
I think YES! This is great and it is good to see another post from you after so long!
Would be a fabulous series - go for it!!
YES! This is a gorgeous painting and I see a lot of potential here for a series.
The light is just perfect. A beautiful job.
Oh, this is stunning!
Have missed your paintings and this is beautiful. Yes, stay with the woods awhile!
Stunningly impressive in every inch !!!! O_O
I was looking at your Beetle drawing again (and being a huge fan of cars) I was pretty much drooling all over it :)
Glad that you're back and hope to see more of your incredible work!
absolutely STUNNING, Stephen.
very gorgeous indeed.
WOW!
Wow - haunting and beautiful and chock full of technique! Almost in time for Halloween. I love this!
Wonderful spatial effects and expressive use of your media - i love your blog.
That's fabulous, it works really well with the ink. It's a bit like that one you sold at the exhibition but the ink gives it a more spidery quality (spiders want corners...) Love the brown ink bit as well.
More, more!
"And it might be surprising..."
x
Love the paintings and wish I could hang out in the woods with you!
The trees speak. Come in, come in. So I went.
The magic of art is that a maker who is not there, who may no longer exist, reaches out and touches something essential in the viewer. Judging by how this bids me, and all the reactions of artists who posted before me, you made magic.
These tree paintings are fantastic. Genuinely atmospheric!
Definitely stay with it - stunning!
It's beautiful! Keep painting!
