The sun is high up in the sky and I'm in my car ...
I was having a coffee in the sunshine outside Alexanders when this beauty pulled up, I took some photos to work from - not enough time to sketch it there and then! I want it!!!!
Beautiful work! I had a couple of Bugs, years ago. I preferred my 51 MGTD and my 59 MGA. They were built like tanks and great gas mileage. Lots of fun. The Bugs were scarey. Had to put concrete blocks in the front to keep it on the road. And, to get any speed, had to get behind a big truck to get pulled along. In wet weather, and cold, I had to wrap the engine in blankets and plastic. What a mess, when I forgot to take them off before I started the engine! I guess they were fun, but not as much as the MGs.
I can see your joy in drawing this, Steve. Absolutely GORGEOUS! One of those works of art where the creation of it places you right in the flow of the zone, isn't it? =)
(hmm, my CAPTCHA is 'chilmet' - is that chill + kismet?)
And to think we owed one of those little Beetles, complete with that kind of car top carrier. We figure the "bug" in the photo is a later model than our 1957, but it is a charmer. It would be fun to have it now. We packed our kids inside and the suitcases on top and went many places. Sometimes, at only 35 miles per hour, but we weren't in a hurry. Its a lovely drawing. I want it too. Orinda
I want it too! I happened on your blog through another today and was immediately caught by this little thumbnail and had to come visit! You do nice work!
My brother was telling me about this cool VW he saw that had a luggage rack on top with vintage luggage in it. Don't know if this is the same one, but it sure seems like it might be. . Your drawing is great!!

That was us in about 1961. That is a very fancy VW. Hope we looked that good.
